CLB Berlin sees itself as a place of open encounter and interdisciplinary collaboration.
It is headed by its two founders, Sally Below and Dr. Sven Sappelt.
Sally Below is an urbanist, curator, and communications expert. With CLB Berlin, she has fulfilled her wish of having an independent space to address urban and other relevant issues. She serves as a consultant to cities, institutions, and ministries throughout Germany and has co-initiated numerous projects on urban affairs and culture. Her office, sbca, is right next door to CLB Berlin, with the sbca team collaborating on exhibitions and events.
Sven Sappelt is a curator, cultural manager, and cultural theorist. In addition to his work at the Humboldt University in Berlin, Ruhr University in Bochum, and the University of Konstanz, since 2000 he has worked with international art and cultural institutions, such as Künstlerhaus Vienna, Wiener Festwochen, Villa Massimo Rome, Kulturkreis der Deutschen Wirtschaft, Humboldt Forum Berlin, and 100 years bauhaus. He founded C60/Collaboratorium für kulturelle Praxis in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) in 2012, and CLB Berlin in 2015 with Sally Below and Martin Liebscher, among others. Sven studied cultural studies and aesthetic practice at the University of Hildesheim, where he received his doctorate in philosophy.
Thanks to many years of experience and work in various contexts, CLB enjoys an international network from the fields of architecture and urban development, cultural research and teaching, museums and the arts, design theory and practice, and not least cultural policy.
