“No Win Situation – The pessimistic view” is an exhibition concept devised by Erik Anton Reinhardt & Maxim Tur that aims to provide space for the examination of a pessimistic gaze in new media.

“We understand a pessimistic view as a perspective that deals with threatening developments such as the complexity of digital networking, the advancing destruction of the environment, ruthless economic dynamics and, last but not least, the global Corona pandemic. Students, lecturers and alumni of the University of the Arts were invited to reflect on the accompanying negative feelings in their respective mediums. Spacious sculptures met sound installations, machinimas met performance, virtual reality met readymade…

The exhibition catalogue attempts to combine artistic and design positions. From a design perspective, the question arises as to how a print publication can succeed in documenting, reproducing and interpreting media art. Each artwork is therefore presented in an individual layout, each work is designed with a different concept in order to find the right visual language and to communicate what is important.
